AMA Responds to FAA’s Drone Sighting Report

The AMA has been supporting hobbyist since 1935! Their continued support is helping the FAA find a neutral ground for the new laws they want need to put in place for commercial “drones”. Interesting article posted from the AMA.   The Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) has released a detailed analysis of the data alluded to in the FAA’s August 12 press release, “Pilot Reports of Close Calls with Drones Soar in 2015.”  A close examination of the 764 records reveals a more complex picture of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS)activity in the United States than initial headlines suggested. There are military crashes and a UFO sighting in the data. Only a fraction of the records were legitimately reported “close calls”and “near misses.” Some didn’t involve drones at all.AMA’s analysis, “A Closer Look at the FAA’s Drone Data,” was included in Monday morning’s USA Today: “Drone hobbyists find flaws in […]

FLYSAFE’s View on the Phantom 3

DJI continues to produce incredible products that create an opportunity for everyone to enjoy flying. As they evolve you can see their purpose in developing a brand that’s known for creating the “Next Best Thing at an Affordable Price”. Well, now to our thoughts on the Phantom 3! Quick Thoughts The marketing on this unit is very convincing. They clearly have invested a good amount into presenting the Phantom 3 to their target audience! A slick website with pretty pictures make this unit very appealing. The Phantom 3 is a big upgrade considering the cost of a Phantom 2. Why do I say that? The Phantom 2 with a Zenmuse gimbal, DJI downlink, reference monitor, and GoPro 4 cost you around $2,000. The Phantom 3 comes with all of that for $1,259. (you can use your phone as a monitor) FlySafe Thoughts We love to see DJI taking […]

The below transcript is republished from the Academy of Model Aeronautics. On February 23, 2015, the FAA published its proposed regulations for small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS) as a notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM). This began a 60-day period during which the public can comment on the proposed regulations. When finalized, the proposed rules would become the safety regulations for operating small, non-recreational, unmanned aircraft. In accordance with the Special Rule for Model Aircraft (the AMA […]
